Secaucus NJ DWI Eluding Charges
A Newark man was charged today with driving a stolen car while intoxicated in Secaucus New Jersey. Secaucus police had tried to pull over the man after noticing that the car he was operating did not have a front license plate and had a rejected inspection sticker but the man (driver) failed to stop. A pursuit of the vehicle ensued at which point the Newark man turned into incoming traffic and struck a vehicle containing two passengers. The man was treated for injuries sustained in the accident and subsequently transferred to the Hudson County Jail. The two passengers were taken to the hospital for treatment and the driver was said to be in critical condition.
Union City Police Department was able to confirm that the car was reported stolen. The Newark man was charged with Assault by Auto and issued summonses for Reckless Driving, Driving with a Suspended License, Driving Without Insurance, and DWI in Secaucus. Bail was set at $35,000 cash or bond for the Newark man. Moreover, the defendant will most likely be charged with second degree Eluding a Police Officer because he eluded police while driving intoxicated. The defendant will be required to appear in Secaucus Municipal Court for his initial appearance and then the case will be sent to the Hudson County Superior Court in Jersey City where the County Prosecutor’s Office will handle the charges.
