Jersey City Prostitution Charges 2C:34-1

Hudson County law enforcement officers arrested six suspects on Friday for charges of running a prostitution business and money laundering. Police said the arrests were the result of a long investigation and based on “an analysis of financial documents, surveillance conducted and information received from multiple confidential informants,” according to the criminal complaints. No further details of the case have been released at this time. Bail was set for all the defendants at Central Judicial Processing “CJP” in Hudson County Superior Court by Judge Margaret Marley. Bails ranged widely between $5,000 to $75,000 with 10 percent option. The difference in bail amounts is normally an indicator of a combination of the extent of the defendant’s involvement, the evidence against the defendant and their past history with the court system.

Promoting prostitution under 2C:34-1 is typically a third degree indictable crime punishable by 3 – 5 years in state prison but the charges can be escalated to a second degree charge which carries a presumption of 5 – 10 in state prison if they “promote” prostitution of a child under 18 years old. This applies even if the defendant reasonably believed the child was older than 18 years old. If you or a loved one has been charged with solicitation of prostitution or promoting prostitution it is important that you speak with an experienced criminal defense attorney about your options. At Proetta & Oliver we offer free consultations with attorneys who can address your concerns and answer your questions. To learn more, contact our office today at (201) 793-8018.
