Kearny and Jersey City Police busted a suspected drunk driver in South Kearny after his vehicle struck two Jersey City police cruisers during a hair-raising chase as he was eluding police officers. After the chase came to an end the defendant was ultimately charged with aggravated assault, eluding policeresisting arrest and driving while intoxicated according to the police reports. Jersey City police officers began pursuing the defendant at high speeds around 2:00 a.m. on the west side of the city until he eventually crossed into South Kearny. Once in Kearny, the chase became even deadlier when the defendant killed his headlights in an attempt to throw off the police in pursuit. Unfortunately the plan backfired and the defendant ended up hitting two Jersey City police cars.

Jersey City NJ Eluding Charges

The chase didn’t end until the defendant hit the second police vehicle and subsequently spun out of control and eventually came to a stop. Police then surrounded the car and ordered the defendant out but he wasn’t ready to give up just yet. Police had to physically drag him out of the driver’s side door as the defendant flared around kicking and screaming. Police noted that there was strong odor of alcohol emitting from the defendant and he was subsequently processed for DUI. It is in the defendant’s best interest to consult with an experienced Jersey City NJ DWI Lawyer about the penalties he is facing and his potential options.
