Aggravated Assault in Montclair New Jersey

Montclair police recently reported the arrest of four suspects in an investigation from an assault in Glenfield Park. On the night of the crime, an anonymous caller contacted Montclair Police Department a little before 10:30 pm to report that they saw several people assaulting and pointing a gun at someone before fleeing in a dark 4-door sedan, police said.

Police officers immediately headed in to the direction of Glenfield Park and while en route saw a suspect vehicle fitting the car’s description, and subsequently conducted a felony motor vehicle stop to investigate. After they pulled over the vehicle, police made sure all the suspects slowly exited the vehicle at one time to avoid multiple suspects from fleeing on foot.

A search of the motor vehicle uncovered handle of a gun sticking out of a red book-bag on the back seat in plain sight. Upon further search, it turned out to be a black BB gun replica of a Beretta semi-automatic pistol, according to the police report. Three of the suspects were young adults from Montclair and Bloomfield and the fourth was a juvenile. The three adults were held on bail of $50,000/$5,000 cash at the Essex County Correctional Facility in lieu of their appearances in Essex County Superior Court, while the juvenile was remanded to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center, police said. The victim refused to cooperate with police which makes the case harder to prove, but he was taken to Mountainside Hospital and treated for several facial lacerations.

According to reports, it appears that the suspects have been charged with Aggravated AssaultUnlawful Possession of a WeaponRobbery and Possession of a Weapon with Unlawful Purposes. These offenses are 1st and 2nd degree indictable crimes and the defendants will be required to appear in Essex County Superior Court to address their charges.
